A Brief Introduction to
Chongqing Institute of Technology(CQIT)
Chongqing Institute of Technology (CQIT) is an institution of higher learning specializing in engineering, economics, management, art and science. CQIT is located in Yangjiaping, Jiulongpo district, Chongiqng. The campus covers an area of 135 hectares and its building area is 350,000 square meters.
CQIT comprises the following 16 secondary colleges or teaching units: College of Automobile Engineering, College of Electronic and Information Engineering, College of Material Science and Engineering, College of Computer Science and Engineering, College of Biological Engineering, College of Business Administration, College of Economics and Trade, College of Accounting, School of Foreign Languages, College of Sciences, College of Humanity & Social Sciences, College of Business and Information, College of Adult Education, College of Higher Vocational Education, Engineering Training Center and Modern Educational & Technological Center. CQIT has 12 central labs and 20 institutes of scientific research, as well as 32 labs and 37 practice bases located on satellite campuses of CQIT. CQIT now offers 23 majors for 4-year undergraduates. CQIT has a staff of 1181, among which 613 are full-time teachers including 326 professors and associate professors. Currently, CQIT has enrolled 9,631 full-time students and more than 11,000 adult students. The institute library contains 630,000 books and has a Chinese academic periodicals retrieval station, a computer inquiry station, the Chinese Southwest Collection Branch of the Book and Reference Material Center of the Word Bank.
To date, scholars from about 20 countries have visited CQIT for lectures and academic exchanges. Foreign students from the U.S.A., Japan, South Korea and Australia have come to this institute to study. Meanwhile, more than 40 students and teachers of the institute have been sent to the U.S.A., Canada, Japan, and Britain for further education or career purposes.
CQIT has good logistic service conditions. It has built first-class student dormitories and has a standard sports ground. The campus makes the study and living conditions favorable for the students.
Summer Program of Studying Chinese Language and Culture
in Chongqing Institute of Technology, China
1. Conditions for Applicants
Anyone healthy between 18-60 years of age can apply.
2. Content of Study
Chinese, Chinese Culture, Arts, Sports, Folk Customs and Practices, Tour of the Three Gorges on the Yangtze and the Mini Three Gorges on Daninghe River.
3. Time for the Program
Early August to Early September every year.
4. Deadline for Application
End of July
5. Teaching Arrangements
A. Time for classes: 20 hours/week, i.e. 08:00-12:00 A.M. Monday-Friday. Organized Tours on Saturdays.
B. Teaching of Chinese Language: With the emphasis on the practice and improvement of the abilities of students in listening, speaking, reading and writing, there are:
Required Courses: Chinese, Oral Chinese, Audio-visual Chinese, Chinese History, Chinese Geography, etc.
Elective Courses: Folk Customs, Translation, Writing, Newspaper Reading, Chinese Poetry, etc.
C. Three kinds of language classes:
Primary Chinese Class, Intermediate Chinese Class, and Advanced Chinese Class.
After enrolment, students will take HSK (Test of Chinese Proficiency) to decide which class they will attend. Every class is planned to have about 15 students.
D. Study of Chinese Culture:
(1) Extracurricular activities: Taiji Quan (shadow boxing), Chinese Painting, Chinese Calligraphy, local operas, etc.
(2) On weekends, there are organized investigation and social practice in famous scenic spots and historical sites such as the Dazu Rock Carvings, the Ancient Chiqikou Town, Dujiangyan Irrigation System, Erwang Temple, the Dufu’s Thatched Cottage, Qingcheng Mountain, The Temple of Marquis Wu, Giant Panda’s Palace, Leshan Grand Buddha.
(3) After finishing study, the tour of the Three Gorges on the Yangtze and the Mini Three Gorges on Daninghe River will be organized according to students’ request on a voluntary basis.
E. After enrolment, students of this program will get student’s cards of Chongqing Institute of Technology, and will be awarded the Study Certificate with Performance Report after finishing the program.

B. Tuition: US$400/person (including charges for textbooks, in-city sightseeing, and cultural and artistic activities)

F. Car charges from airport to Chongqing Institute of Technology: US$10/person
G. Fees for medical care should be paid by students themselves.
Chinese Language Training Program
in Chongqing Institute of Technology, Chongqing, China
1. Conditions for the applicants.
Anyone that healthy and 18 to 60 years of age can apply.
2. Contents of study
Chinese, Chinese Culture, Chinese Arts, Chinese Sports, Chinese Folk Customs and Practices, Tour of the Three Gorges on the Yangtze River and the Mini Three Gorges on Daninghe River.
3. Time for Starting Classes
Early Feb. and Early Sept. every year
4. Deadline for Application
End of Jan. and End of Aug. every year
5. Teaching arrangement
A. Time for classes
40 weeks∕academic year: First term, 20 weeks; second term, 20 weeks and totally 640-960 hours∕term with 16-24 hours∕week.
B. Teaching of Chinese Language:
To enhance the ability of Chinese listening, speaking, reading, writing, the following courses are offered:
----Required courses including speaking, listening, reading, writing, grammar, etc.
-----Elective courses including listening of Chinese news, audiovisual and speaking Chinese, movie appreciation, Chinese newspaper and periodical reading, business Chinese, translation, Chinese history and geography, Chinese culture, outline of Chinese society, Chinese culture, art appreciation, etc.
C. Setup of Chinese classes
Three kinds of classes are set up: primary Chinese classes, intermediate Chinese classes and advanced Chinese classes. After enrolment, students take HSK (Test of Chinese Proficiency).
D. Study of Chinese culture
1) Practical activities such as learning shadowboxing, Chinese Painting, Chinese Calligraphy, traditional Chinese music, Chinese acrobatics, Chinese cuisine, and watching local dramas will be organized after class.
2) On weekends, students are organized to visit Dazu Rock Carvings, ancient Ciqikou Town, and other historic spots in Chongqing to conduct on-the-spot investigation and social practice.
3) On a voluntary basis, students can be organized to visit Dujiangyan Irrigation System, Erwang Temple, Dufu’s Thatched Cottage in Chengdu, Qingcheng Mountain, the Temple of Marquis Wu, Sichuan Wolong Wilderness Area, Giant Panda’s Palace, the Leshan Giant Buddha, Jiuzhaigou Valley, the Three Gorges on the Yangtze River and the Mini Three Gorges on Daninghe River during holidays or vacations (The expenses are paid by the students themselves).
4) After the classes are finished, students can be organized, on a voluntary basis, to visit Kunming International Horticultural Exposition, Yunnan Ethnic Villages, Dali, Lijiang, Erhai Lake, Changshan Mountain, and Yulong Jokul, in Yunnan Province, China. (The students themselves pay the expenses.)
E. After enrolment, the students will have overseas student cards of Chongqing Institute of Technology. After the finish of their study, they will be awarded with study certificates and school report cards by Chongqing Institute of Technology.

C. Passed the entrance exams.
Those whose Chinese level cannot reach the required standard must take remedial Chinese classes at first. Those who have obtained the “B” certificates of HSK may be exempted from the exam of Chinese.
